Metamorphosis in Gold by Maria Sibylla Merian Museum Print
Here's one of Maria Sibylla Merian's insect illustrations, and if you don't already know about this early naturalist, you should! She was one of the first Europeans to actually observe insects alive in their natural habitat – and even booked herself and her daughter on a trans-Atlantic sea voyage to Suriname in order to conduct her research and make illustrations. All of this in the late 1600s!
Find her in the Heroes of Science line too!
