Youth Transititon Program, Vocational Rehab and Great Employees

Last year, we were proud to receive and Employer Award from the Oregon State Rehabilitation Council for creating a workplace where several adults with disabilities can thrive. You can find a quick write up on the awards in the 2018 SRC Annual Report. There's even a photo of us at the ceremony!   Really, though, we're the lucky ones. Through the Youth Transition Program, we've found some of the most reliable, hardest working, wonderful employees, and we're honored to have them working with us every day.

Vocational Rehab presented us with this award today

We were honored to receive this award today from the Oregon State Rehabilitation Council and Vocational Rehab in recognition of our continued efforts in building an inclusive, supportive workplace for several adults with disabilities. Many thanks to all of the wonderful voc rehab counselors who have helped place such wonderful people in our workforce and who continue to advise and assist us. It doesn’t really feel like we’re doing anything terribly extraordinary. Everyone needs accommodation in some way or another in order to produce their best work - regardless of whether or not they have a disability with a title. Inclusion & Adaptability in Hiring

With our warehouse’s recent move to Portland, we found ourselves with a bunch of new positions to fill, and decided we wanted to make sure our job opportunities were being offered to a diverse range of people. Individuals with disabilities can have a particularly hard time finding open and accepting employment opportunities, so in addition to typical job postings we wanted to make sure to increase awareness of our openings within this community. There are loads of reasons why building an inclusive workplace is a good thing, not the least of which is that hiring – especially hiring entry level positions as a young company – is hard.
